Default Anyone has gas strut on the tailgate?

I have seen models for the Ram but nothing for the Dakota. Looked into improvising something myself but it is pretty tight there.

Yes, curious as to why you would need something like that? So it opens slowly?

One of my co workers has it on his Tundra. It is a nice feature. Just pull the latch and it drops slowly. Only problem is that when he opened my tail gate he let it drop and slam. He was like opps! I forgot.

Exactly. It's just cool. Besides, I can see my wife straining to lower the gate gently. It is a nice touch to have.

that does sound like a cool mod. It would have to be a pretty stout strut to be able to hold the tailgate in position while there is weight on it, like when loading something or just sitting on it, all that weight would be on the strut, right? (don't know if ours have stops for the tailgate or the latches hold it in place).

Well, I agree that the Dakota gate is a lot lighter than the full size, but there are some people that could use the extra support. My wife has arthritis so bad in her hands that she always has trouble with the gates, so anything that would make it easier would be nice.
