Default question about exhaust

im saving up some money to put an exhaust on my truck but i was confused on what would be better.

is getting a bigger exhaust pipe? or just cutting out the current muffler and putting an aftermarket one on better?

i recently put on a cai and i noticed it seems a tiny bit more sluggish in first and 2nd gear and im guessing its because the exhaust isnt able to keep up with the new higher airflow from the cai?

also what is a good throaty exhaust? i dont really like the lower mellow droney type exhausts.

there are numerous threads on exhausts on here, you can do a search and see what people talk about, likes, dislikes, etc. It more comes down to personal preference. Increasing the pipe size will not necessarily result in power gains unless you replace the restrictive "Y" pipe as well. Most have opted to remove all the resonators and factory muffler and go with either a single in dual out of single in single out system. Some just remove the muffler and leave the resos. I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback on your question.

in this case, I would recommend staying away from the Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I had the FM Super44 on my truck at first and absolutely hated the drone inside (The FM 50 series may be different). I switched to a Magnaflow and even though it still has some drone, it is almost silent compared to the flowmaster but still sounds killer outside. Like I said, it's all personal preference and how much $ you want to spend. Some people swear by Flowmaster, some by Magnaflow, but then there is MBRP, Gibson, Thrush, Borla and many others. There are also threads on here swith sound clips of various exhaust set-ups if you look for them.

I got Borla and it's almost silent inside. Melow at idle and cruising but when you let it go it's an eye opener! I got an audio clip around here. do a search for borla and you will see.... good luck....
