I hate to stir the pot here but if you were driving defensively you should have seen he was speeding and not turned, no matter what you were the one who turned into his path.
It should be the other guys fault because he was speeding but the collision was 100% avoidable.

Amazing isnt it. First instance I saw was in the early 70's guy backed into my VW pushed it back in to next space and crushed the front. Cops came he got a Drunkin public, had to take him to court, no driving ticket . Then mid 1970 era. My truck, big big truck was at a fast food place some jerk driving a MG backed into it so hard he took out his trunk, rear fenders lights all of the back. He hit a huge steel bumper rail and scratched the paint. No ticket issued because p.prop.Same thing in Prince William County 2007 time frame, roughly 8 grand to my Dakota, totalled a honda got a DIP. No ticket issued for drunk driving. Front Royal guy tried to park his Kia under a firnature truck's rear nothing done till the guy walked on the street then the cop arested him for DIP. Strange state isnt it?
But on the other hand one of those places can and will arrest you if your drinking a beer your property outside the house. When I lived there my neighbor got arrested for sittin on the front porch having a beer after work. Once again strange state.
