I just bought an 08 dakota V8 laramie. I know the owners manual suggests 91. Where i live we either have 89 as a middle grade or 93 as high octane. I've filled it up a few times with 89 and seems okay but i was just wondering if i should use super. Thanks

I know the pre-2008 HO models were supposed to use premium gas, but I always heard the 2008 was just fine with u87 (will need to check my 2010's owner manual sometime.) I almost always run e85 (105 octane) so don't usually run either one to tell you if I noticed any difference though.

My manual says 87 for my 05 V8. In fact, it also states that with a higher octane there may be a loss of performance.
I would be listening for pinging if you choose to use a lower octane than recommended. It probably wont do any harm under normal driving, but if you start towing or you like to wind the engine up to get it up to speed, I would use a higher octane. The detergents in premium fuel will help keep your engine cleaner too

I have a 2005 H.O. and it states that it can run 87-91 octane no problem but for optimum performance use 91. I use 87 in mine simply because I have a work gas card and do not pay for gas as long as I only use 87. I have never had a spark knock or any other issue and it performs excellent. Now my corvette on the other hand that is a different story.
