Default Third brake light

So Im looking at converting to an LED third brake light, but Im having trouble finding a reasonably priced one. I can find one for a 1997-2004 much cheaper. Question is, will it work? Im looking at part numbers from Mopar, and they dont appear to match but the brake light covers that are available state that they fit 97-11. So does anyone know if the third brake lights ever changed since 97?

I Know that my 2000 Dakota had a rough plastic third brake light, unlike the smooth cover we have now. I bet it is the exact same shape, and same mounting holes.

Yeah, if the covers match, then Im guessing it will atleast meet up at the holes so I can mount it. The only other question would be the plugs.

Let us know about that one....quite a difference in prices between 2nd gen and 3rd gen. You can get a 2nd gen LED on on ebay for about $40, i cant even find a 3rd gen one.

Yeah, thats why I was asking. Because a cover for mine would be $40, and they state they fit 97-11. So I might be better off just getting the LED one.

Otherwise Im going to get all of my tails professionally tinted.

rengnath : they are the same! Second and third gen plugs are the same. I took out my third light to change a cargo light and looks exactly the same as that in the pic!!!
