Exclamation The Big 3 Upgrade

i am just wondering if anyone has done the big 3 upgrade on their truck?

Definition: the "Big Three" upgrade means improving the current capacity of three cables: 1) alternator positive to battery positive, 2) battery negative to chassis, and 3) engine ground to chassis. Some people replace the factory wiring; others add additional cables to the factory wiring.

im just wondering if their are premade cables that i could get possibly around 4 gauge or even 0 gauge... if you have any information on this please let me know.

thanks for looking.

Make your own, this will be significantly cheaper. The best way to start is take off your three cables, record lengths and connection ends, and make your bigger diameter cables. Chrysler started really doing good things to increase longevity to the factory wiring, such as: heat-shrink with the goopy stuff on most connectors, good braided ground straps, cable mounts on the chassis, etc. Is there any particular reason you need bigger cables?

i also have a system that makes it even worse.... the headlights dont dim thankfully due to ballasts... but i would like to fix the inside problem, because even the tachometer and everything else flashes pretty much down to nothing.

I would try a 160amp alt. first. I believe our factory alt. are 130amp. You can find the 160amps in the 04 durango 4.7L. Also, with your multimeter, test your voltage system with everything on @ idle. Start with no acc on, then turn each one on individually: headlights, ac, daylighters, stereo, etc. This should give you a good indication on which one is drawing the most amps. However, then only way to fix it is to provide more amps.
