Default TPS Readings

Can you guys tell me what your stock % readings are on your trucks? Mostly the guys with tuners should be able to tell me. Thanks

Also anyone know if its possible to goof the internal calibration up on a TPS?

I'll explain more after some of you guys can give me numbers

9-14% is normal. It should read 70-80% at WOT.

There is a way to screw up the calibration. If the sensor "binds" it will mess up the calibration. Also, over time its sensativity is lost. I have a few spares from when I was trying to figure out my idle issue. If you need one, lmk. None of them are Mopar, but they would help you trouble shoot.

Are you sure its 9-14?% That seems high... when the TPS is not on the TB it measures around 3-4% which I have been told and found to be normal. I was having idle issues at 8%. But when I first got this TB it looked like someone had twisted the end shaft alittle with a set of vise grips. Well needless to say when I got home I was annoyed enough I tore it down. I untwisted the shaft put it back together and it hit 14% and was idling around 1200 and it wasnt settling. Well it came back off and I twisted it back the way it was only a little farther. I put it back together and the TPS was reading 8% which didnt make sense because I twisted it farther. So luckily with this TB the guy sent his old TPS that was just a yr old. I stuck that on and it read 4% which made sense to my adjustment and the idle was normal and I cant get it to idle high or search now...lol so I think I fixed it. For giggles I put the stock TPS on the stock TB and it reads 12% which makes me think I F-ed that TPS up. Also when putting the TPS in place on the stock TB you have to turn it slightly so it will correctly line up with everything. I am going to run this setup tomorrow and then I may try the other TPS on the stock one to see if it reads the same as the modified one. I sent the dude a PM to ask if he had to do anything like I did. Kinda weird and makes me think the shaft wasnt made right but it solved the problem. On top of all this I fixed the lil stick I had like the way you suggested.

Ill take a video for you on my way home. Mine runs fine with the stock TB at that %.

Ok, took the video, and theres a little suprise for you at the end. I havent burned the carbon out of the engine in a while and I figured why not share it with you guys!

But back to topic, your truck should idle regardless of TPS % at start up IF you do a reset or throttle sweep. The thing that matters is the Throttle Pos as I pointed out in the video. The TPS value is really irrelevant, the computer just uses the voltage from the TPS and converts it to the Throttle Pos which is the relevant number.

OK then the stock one has to be right... WTF!? Did you have to twist the your tps slightly when you installed it?

Yup, that is so the PCM actually gets a reading. Otherwise, there would be a chance where your throttle wouldnt hit the sensor until you actually had the throttle depressed some.

OK thanks to you I just ran outside and tried the tps thats on the truck on the stock TB to compare to the stock TPS... you sir are correct 12% is where it sits. So I am still not sure why that shaft was tweaked to begin with but its sitting at 4% now because of me. I am going to run it just to see what it does. My range is still the same, only lower... starts at 4% and ends at 66%. Everything checks out. If this idle issue comes back I am going to check for leaks even though I checked all the bolts for tightness. If not, then I guess its an oddity and that was the fix...
