Gascap
Ok, this topic may have been covered but not sure where so here goes my issue.
I have owned my Dakota for about a year and 3 months. Was used but had the original gas cap on. I have a habit of buying locking gas caps to prevent gas theives. Well this last winter got sick and tired of my lock freezing so went to an aftermarket (autozone) gas cap, non-locking. Everything good for about 2 months then my GASCAP warning message come on.
Made sure cap was on tight, go about my way. A month later it happens again, the message shows up.
Go buy another cap, non-locking at the zone. Three weeks go by, message comes up again. Again make sure cap is on tight.
Well today, Sunday, about 3 mins after start up my check engine light comes on (with the GASCAP message). Take to the zone, they run the OBDII, EVAP code indicating GASCAP. Ok, buy another one.
So far not happening.
Any ideas from this long post? Lines to tank, connections, malfunction???
Thanks
Birk

check out the hoses going to the evaporator canister, one might be off or cracked ect. try taking off the gas cap and spray carb cleaner in the vent orifice. There is sometimes a build of emission that causes the valve not to close
If not might want to try a cap from the dealer there about $9 or something like that.
Thats all i can really think off
cheers

I had the gas cap issue when I bought my dak. Bought one for 18.99 at autozone. It continually gave the the check gas cap message. Took it back and went to the dealer and got a locking one for 21.99. No issues so far and the locking mechanism is much better.
haha! Lmfao

i have been fighting the same issue on my 08, my truck only has 12,000 miles on it and it started about 6 months ago, i havent changed the cap, and dont think its the issue, i can still here the pressure difference everytime i crack the cap loose, it all started after a friend of mine topped off the tank where it wouldnt take a nother drip, i think it got fuel in the evap system.... however its goin to the stearler tomarrow, for them to figure out
