Default Electric Fan wiring question

I plan on putting in an electric fan, and there are a few people here that have done it, and have some general write-ups.
I don't want the fan on until I've reached temp though... I have a pretty nice fan that was from a mustang setup i had (turbocharged and all that) but I need to know...

WHERE can I find a wire with the temperature on it? I don't know where the sensors are, what the voltages are, etc. If I can find that, maybe I can find a controller? Maybe someone has used a controller of some sort? Perhaps our trucks have some loose wire somewhere for the addition of an electric fan? (don't laugh, my HD F150 had it... just hooked up a relay and ran power)

Thanks guys, and Once i have it figured, i'll post it up - prolly be summer before I really get into it, other projects en route as well!

It is my futur plan for the summer.
HHR chevrolet e-fan is a direct fit with tie wrap
and some people use a spal controler with variable speed but i am looking at a cheaper way.
A temp sensor switch and a relay and wire the fan.

probabely install a 180 thermostat and notch it (dont remember from what vehicule people stole them)

The stock temp sender is on top of the water pump, between the A/C compressor and the alternator. ill see if i can find a pic and a pin out on the plug

Return to sender nailed it.

Pony, If you want to know where the sensors are, color of wires, etc you should download the 2005 Dakota Service Manual and it will tell you everything about our engines you ever wanted to know.

Depending on what type of fan controller you have you can usually activate it by engine temp one of three ways.
1. Piggyback of the coolant temp sensor.
2. Aftermarket sensor that replaces the purge screw.
3. Radiator temp probe.

With the SPAL I went with option 1 (piggyback OEM coolant sensor signal). It allows me to program the fan at what temp to kick on, what temp to kick off, what temp to kick into high speed, etc.

The cheapest way is get the over the counter controller from Autozone. It has a radiator probe to measure engine coolant temps.

My fan kicks on when the temp gauge reached 1/8 (around 120) and goes into high at 1/4 (around 155) and also kicks into high when the A/C is on. With the Spal you just watch your temp gauge and program the temps you want.
