Visually inspect the valve guides. It is common to trash a valve guide when bending a valve.

you can see were the valves contacted the pistons but its still smooth. so the pistons are fine.. as for the seats they are fine. I colored them with marker and spun the new valves in there and there was a nice line around the center of the face? i think thats what the taper is.

At least the pistons are good. Like the others said, check your guides and be sure to lap the new valves. I use laping compound and an air ratchet but you can also use a laping tool. I put the valve stem into the air ratched and gently turn the valve until it becomes smooth vice gritty.

To everyone asking about the engine running with one cam sproket off a tooth, it will run smooth and you won't even know. With Travis motor I had to put the TDC marks into alignment, pull the timing chain cover and observe one V8 marker on the sprocket off by a tooth to the inside. I repositioned the sproket into proper timing and once I had worked out the rest of the issues with his truck I had it checked by a shop with an OBDII tuner. Showed to be perfect timing and I really couldn't tell a difference. No knocking, no erratic or rough idle.

The best advice I can give, when in doubt, double check all timing marks before putting things back together.

Good thing you didn't mail the tool back, lol. You are still going to need it again my friend.
