Sean I have seen that before on someone else's 4.7L. The rockers slipped off the valve stem and lash adjuster. The installer didn't notice (if you don't pay close attention you can miss it). He started it up, the cam came down breaking the ends off. The pics they emailed to me look just like that.
Just based off the pics it looks like the rockers got trapped off the the stems and were snapped. Eric is right, you need to pull the heads and check the valves and pistons.
Like I said man, before you do anything else, veryify timing. From Travis's motor I can tell you a 4.7l interference motor can still turn over and run with one cam tooth out of time. That should not happen but it did.
Good luck.

That is good news. Sean, last 4 or 5 times we talked on FB I told you to pull that timing cover and set timing, lol. I know for a fact these 4.7Ls will start out of time even though they aren't supposed to. But if the rockers slid out of position, there isn't a sensor to detect it. There is a chance your valves/pistons are fine but you need to check to be sure.
If I were you I would .
1. Pull both heads check pistons and valves.
2. Put the heads back on and replace everything damaged, rockers, etc.
3. When the heads on pull the timing chain cover and reset timing.
Good luck brother.
