I recently picked up some mobil 1 10w30 real cheap.. I have a 3.7 and am in the chicago area. Would it be ok to run this oil in the summer time or should i try to swap it out somewhere for 5w20 /5w30. I do alot of stop and go driving.
0w30, 5w30, and 10w30 are not all that different. They all have the same viscosity at operating temperature. (hints the 30) You can pretty much interchange all with no ill effects, winter or summer.
I would not put 5w20 in my engine during the summer. The 1% increase in gas millage is not worth the 30% decrease in engine life, die to how thin the oil is.
I know some will disagree with me, but everyone can have there own opinion. You need to do your research and see the data for yourself on each oil you choose.
Thats weird I'm in VT and mine calls for 5w20, I think I'll just run 5w30. I always run synthetic Mobil 1 or Royal purple. Speaking of royal purple, has anyone used royal purple ice? I just bought some last night so I'm curious if it will work. Also going to be changing over to all royal purple, is it hard to change front dif, trans, and transfer case?
Its not weird, I have a 5w-20 dakota too. It varies by location and year...
