You shouldnt have any issues... unless the trailer weighs a bazillion pounds.

surge brakes should be ok. I can't see a miata weighing more than 2,500lbs and a trailer weighing more than 1,000lbs. Just give extra room for braking and if going downhill, be sure to have tow mode on and possibly downshift for engine braking if you start to get brake fade (though i doubt it).

miata weighs 2222 lbs aprox. and the trailer has no brakes whatsoever. i have 6 gears and not a one of them is tow haul mode. i will definitely be double clutchin and using the engine to brake.

give your truck a quick look over. brakes/coolant/oil. if you can check the trans level I'd suggest that too. (I cant on my eclipse, but IDK about these trucks manual trans.)
You can check your manual trans on both the Dakota and your DSM, Eric. Look at the trans from the front of the car. Locate the fill plug. Remove it, and dip your finger in.

made it just fine and the clutch ate it up no problem. you fellas know the 6spd has a super low first right??? poor automatic guys... i even had to climb 4 huge hills that you have about a mile straight to climb and it handled it fine at 55mph in 3rd at about 3500 rpm~
not even a problem. the cross drilled brake rotors are awesome too. i was able to stop fast and hard when needed.
