surge brakes should be ok. I can't see a miata weighing more than 2,500lbs and a trailer weighing more than 1,000lbs. Just give extra room for braking and if going downhill, be sure to have tow mode on and possibly downshift for engine braking if you start to get brake fade (though i doubt it).

how far are you going? I pulled my eclipse 200 miles. but I have tow/haul and the trailer had surge brakes. My eclipse weighs more, and my trailer did too. the truck will handle it fine, but your clutch may not like you, and your brakes could fight you a bit too.
give your truck a quick look over. brakes/coolant/oil. if you can check the trans level I'd suggest that too. (I cant on my eclipse, but IDK about these trucks manual trans.)

made it just fine and the clutch ate it up no problem. you fellas know the 6spd has a super low first right??? poor automatic guys... i even had to climb 4 huge hills that you have about a mile straight to climb and it handled it fine at 55mph in 3rd at about 3500 rpm~
not even a problem. the cross drilled brake rotors are awesome too. i was able to stop fast and hard when needed.
