Just got the truck back from the shop, again. The waterpump needed to be replaced. The mechanic told me he thought he heard some lifter noise. He said to go to an auto parts store and get something to stop it. He mentioned something by Lucas. I've forgotten what he said specifically. What can I put in to, hopefully, stop the noise. well is it very loud? because lifter noise is a normal thing four our engines they all do it.

 

Yes. It wasn't making that noise a few weeks ago. It sounds like it's coming from the right side of the engine. I thought it was because it was misfiring. Got that stopped and it's still doing it.

 

why was it miss firing?

 

Needed new plugs and cleaned the fuel injectors.

 

ohh ok and did he say lucus oil stabilizer?

 

That's what I don't remember. He said he thought he heard some lifter noise. I asked him if that was something that I needed to get fixed fairly soon. He said to just go to an auto parts store and get some Lucas something or other and put that in.

 

I would use seafoam and pour it down the brake booster and that should clean the top end of the engine.

 

That will help clean the inside of the intake, the runners into the cylinder head, valves and combustion chambers and do nothing for lifter tap.

What viscosity oil do you use? Our engines need 5-20 or 5-30 to run properly. Too thick of oil wil cause lifter tap because its slower to circulate.

I do not recomend lucas oil stabilizer, its too thick.

Get some rislone or marvel mystery oil.

 

I was using 10-30 but switched to 5-30. It was after that oil change that it started. I've been thinking that maybe that has something to do with it.
