Default Still having idle problems..

Hey guys,

So I'm back to square one again.. Still having some problems with the magnum v8.. My truck just does not want to idle properly. Before, the check engine light was on and through egr valve sensor a high.. Replaced the egr valve and spark plugs and light has been off ever since. Truck has been getting great gas mileage.. 19-21 city 22 highway. However, as soon as I come to a stop my truck runs like garbage. Before the rpm was racing way up and way down and since I replaced the egr valve, it stopped. But now the rpm is still dropping and jumping up but not as drastically as before. Also, at rest before all these problems started the idle was steady at 700 but now it is just erratic. Almost to the poInt where I am concerned for my safety. As I was pulling out in traffic today my engine bogged down and it scared the hell out of me.

I am sorry about the long post, but I am unsure of what to do next. I am about to take it back to the dealer where it came from and get to the bottom of this. Any thoughts? Thank you all once again! Great forum here.

I would check your throttle body. Best if you take it off and clean the snot out of it. Also clean the sensors, but be gentle on them.

Might want to pull off the PCV valve and check to make sure it is not clogged. It is located on your oil filler tube. It is a pain in the butt to remove but not horrible. Usually if it rattles it is still good.

Thank you I appreciate the quick reply, youve definitely been a big help to the forum. As I am relatively new to these trucks and don't know as much, could you tell me where the sensors are located if you know off the top of your head? This weekend I'm definitely trying the things you recommended and I do hope they work. Thank you!

Have you checked/cleaned the TPS? It is on the throttle body.

Went to start the truck this morning for work and it started right up, As usual, but then died immediately. Tried to restart it and nothing. It was cranking over but it didn't want to go.
