Default somethin new

Hay yall, Over the 4th of July weekend, my battery went bad, so i replaced it. (those things aint cheap.) ever since then, when i get done driving , and get out, when the driver's door opens, all of the other doors unlock. I aint complaining, i just never have noticed this before, actually, it aint ever done it before. Does anyone else's truck do this? What causes it?

Howdy Cowboy,

I believe it is a feature of the truck's ECM to unlock all doors when the door handle is touched from inside. There is a way in your manual to disable the feature if you would like. You use the remote and press a set of buttons together. You can have it so all doors unlock, only drivers unlocks, or have you manually unlock the doors. Check the manual and you will find the instructions to change this. You could also pop into a dealer and they could do it. Hope this helps!!

Yeah, I disabled that feature a while back. The process is in your owners manual.

Mine does that, atleast most of the time. I like it cause I normally go to one of the other doors to grab something when I get out, so it makes it so I dont have to unlock the doors. Sometimes the others stay locked though. I think they only stay locked if the engine is running and I open the driver door. If the engine is off and I open the driver door, all unlock.

When I replaced my battery a few months back, nothing had changed. The battery was out for a couple of hours and the locks did not unlock when exiting the truck.

Yup mine does that too. I like it when I have the whole family. Every one out.

My truck does this, I also recall seeing that option to shut it off in the manual.

There were 2 automatic lock features that were enabled on at least the 2006 Dakotas. Both could be disabled by simply cycling the ignition key a few times and listening for a single chime which confirmed that you changed that option. The process is in pages 17-19 in my manual.

The 2 features that were enabled at the factory are:

1. Automatic locking of all doors when 15mph is reached.

This is the option that I have disabled, I just figure constant locking and unlocking will just wear them out. (When you change this option, feature number 2 will also be disabled. Or you can disable feature # 2 by itself.)

2. Automatic unlocking of all doors when any door is opened from the interior, and vehicle is in Park.
