Default 4.10s or 4.56s

Want to switch out my 3.55s for something more aggressive. I'm lifted w 33s but I'm also turbod. Some are saying def go 4.56s but others said the turbo would like the 4.10s better. What do yall think?

School me - what is the advantage of different gear ratios? I thought it just changed your revolutions - are they physically stronger?

it depends on the sweet spot of the turbo. Blown287 had 4.10 but had to go back to 3.55 b.c he was going too fast through the rpm band and not utilizing his boost.

They are actually, the same amount of power goes into turning the wheels a lower number of times per tick, with a higher ratio. Which translates into more power devoted to each turn of the wheel. Same concept as dropping a gear to go up a hill, or pass on the freeway. But its permanent and in the rear end instead of the transmission.

The drawback is that. You have higher RPMs all the time and freeway mpg can suffer.

Not sure what tire size blown has but im on 33s which are larger than stock meaning, to my understanding, they lower my finally gearing. According to the googled gear chart I looked at 4.11s would bring me close to a stock ratio and 4.56s would be best for performance....

4.10 would be great for the truck, under boost it will still scoot like a bad a$$ but under normal driving, highway, you will be better off with the rpm, if you were using it as a rock crawler or off road rig 90 percent of the time, and stayed off the highway and did local roads, then go with the 4.56, our rpm range is different then the hemi, if it was a hemi, I would say 4.56, or even 5.13 would be good

I have owned two Dakotas one with 3.92 that I switched to 4.56 gears for drag racing reasons. It allowed explosive off the line power and I was running redline at the traps of the 1/4 mile mark which is ideal for that situation. The drawback was much higher rpms on the highway but I was running 28" tires, my city mileage became my overall mileage.

My current ride is a 3.55 gears and it could use a little help off the line as well but I want the best overall average, I nice compromise of gas mileage, rpms and acceleration.

Switching from 3.55 to 3.92 you probably won't notice enough of a difference to warrant the cost of the install.

So do you want to max out your acceleration? Go with 4.56 but realize you will be on OD around 120 mph and you pretty much have to level off on the gas at that point. I believe it would be fine with those big tires.

4.10s would take you to 135 before OD.

Well seeing as you have 33" tires and a turbo I would recommend 4:56's. Your highway mileage will suffer a little. But when you roll into the throttle you will never get the smile off your face
