Default Temp. roof rack

So on my upcoming move to TX I have to have my bike in the bed and tow my wife's jetta behind the truck. My father suggested purchasing a temporary roof rack and one of those clamshell cases for the roof.

I'm looking for some ideas. I've never purchased something like this and was looking for guidance on what I should look for. I don't want to permanently attach them, so any advice would be great on what setup or what brand I should get.

Thanks in advance.

Those clamshell work great have one on the mini van. Kind of ruins fuel economy but works.

They make those racks that attach to the bed of the truck that you can mount any roof rack attachment too.

Then the only logical solution is to strap the motorcycle to the top of the jetta and get a bedrack for the rest!

Off the wall/outside the box/half kidding-only because that's a LONNNNG ride:

Get a trailer for your motorcycle, those are about the same size as the clamshells right?

I'll just tow the car and put the bike in the back. The military is moving the rest of the stuff. I just have a bunch-o-guns that I don't want to be in the bed (even though they are in pelican cases.

Thanks for all the advice.

Thankfully, most SUVs already have a roof rack. I wouldn't hesitate to get a temporary one if I needed more storage space for a pickup.

I have had a hard shell topper for probably 15 years now. Has seen the roof of two of the ex's SUVs, my old Avalanche and now my Grand Cherokee. Can't beat 'em for freeing up the inside/bed of the vehicle. Mine pretty much gets used when I go camping now where I just have a ton of gear and often pile four of us in my Grand Cherokee limiting inside storage. They make 'em in all sorts of shapes and sizes, I bought the largest one I could find at the time. I think I paid $189 on sale, but again, that was like 15 years ago...

I've been meaning to take out the welder and make myself a safari rack like you see all the time on Jeep Wranglers but haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe now since I just got laid off from work I'll have the time.

Another option for you is to purchase a hitch mounted carrier:
