It all depends, Mine is a 05 CC V6 Auto ST with Tow Package
Any Year and model can tow. Others will chim in with more info.
If you are geared differently, and have good brakes you COULD tow more, but I would say stay to factory specs for safety

By drop I assume you mean receiver, Which depends one your trailer with also dictates ball size either 1 7/8", 2" 2 1/2" (I think it is) or Pintle Style
Most trailers are 1 7/8" or 2" (Most rentals are 2")

You can either buy a full hitch and harness, or a kit (Bolts to bumper support) and harness

Heres a pic of a factory hitch. The tube you see coming down is the bumper support. Which also doubles as the hitch. they all have it as far as I know, Just without the 2" Tube part and safety chain loops

as you can see from reject's pics, the factory tow package/bar/junk is frame mounted and welded on. If you do not have a factory tow package, I dont know if that tube is there and the hitch part is not or what. Look under your rear bumper, whats under there? I dont know if the 05-07 stuff will fit an 08....

If you do not have the factory hitch, you will have that bar, you just need to buy the kit that bolts onto it.

It all depends, A Hitch by itself will also add some weight, well getting the part to turn the bar into one, adds less weight, either is good. Just make sure you get a T connector for lights.
