Default Tranny leaks already

So would you guys think it would be odd for 2006 dakota with 57000 miles on it to have a leaky transmission? I think when i bought it with 29,000 it was seeping but not its slowly turning into a leak, but i have never needed to add any fluid to it. Doesnt it seem a little early for a leak (front main seal)?

Does the tranny still need to be dropped to replace the front seal? Ive never done work on a tranny before, although i am handy with a tool set.

i may be wrong here....i was thinking the rear seal, where the driveshaft goes in. The front seal I'm not so sure about.

Mine was gushing when I bought it, front seal leak from hell. My truck sat a lot before I bought it is my guess, all but 1 of my tires had loud flat spots on them too. The seals like to get brittle when the vehicle is allowed to sit for extended periods.

Too bad, you could have gotten the seeping fixed under the 36/3 warranty.

I tried to do that with something else on the truck when it had 29000 on it, but the dealer told me that my truck was registered on March of 2006 and i bought the truck on Aug of 2009 so the dealer wouldnt do anything since it had passed february of 2009. If i remember correctly they originally sold these trucks with 100K powertrain warranties but then they changed it to 36k warranties.

Do you know for sure that it's the transmission that's leaking or one of the transmission cooler lines? The fluid cooler has quick disconnects for both the input as well as the output lines, and it's very easy to get these to leak. If you aren't sure where it's leaking, take the truck to a DIY car wash and wash that whole area clean - it'll be much easier to see the leak. Post some pictures of the leaking area.

I believe it was 36/3 for everything, 70/7 for drivetrain
The 36/3 followed the truck no matter what,
but the 70/7 was transferable only once, and that transfer cost $150.
if you were the second owner, $150 would be covering this..
lets hear it for full disclosure!

Yup, double check before you go fixing parts. I had a transmission leak and swore it was the pan, only for it to leak again, turns out it was the TCC/OD Solenoid Assembly....

Neglected vehicles never surprise me when they start leaking fluids...
