Default New Dakota Owner

I just bought a 2007 4.7l Dakota with 75k miles. I am new to the Dakota family and was looking to get started on some mods.

Right now I need to replace the sway bar links and shocks, if anyone has any input on a good/affordable model that would be helpful.

Are there any easy Airbox mods? Not sure if something as simple as removing the tube from the air box to the wheel well would help at all.

How can i tell which model 4.7 I have in the truck? I believe there are 3 flavors. Im guessing the HO model would say HO on the hat but i'm not positive.

How do I reset the PCM? I have read many different ways of doing it. I removed a platinum fuel saver that I found when i looked under the hood and want to reset the computer now that i removed it.

I'm sure you'll see me around the forums quite a bit now. Good to be aboard it seems like a really good community......................Just thought of something else, while i'm replacing the front struts maybe I should put a leveling kit on also? Any recommendations on that also.................Im in trouble aren't I?

Welcome to the forum!

A cold air intake is the first thing I recommend. You will love the sound this V8 make with it! They go for about $200-300 or you can make your own for about $50 ( I am selling one minus the filter for very cheap, PM if anything)

The best to reset the PCM is by simply disconnecting the battery for a few mins. I would leave it disconnected for about 20 just to make sure it all drained..

For shocks, you can check out rockauto.com, they have good prices. But if anything you can just go there to get the part numbers.

If you want to go with the leveling kit, I also have one for sale (2.5”), PM me if interested

Here is a link that explains the differences between the HO and the regular 4.7:

Post some pictures of the truck!!!

Welcome to the forum! If your 4x4, don't go over 2" for the leveling kit.

Hay Dude, Congrats on your new purchase and welcome to the forum. Let me be the first to say:

Yes, while you are tearing your front end apart it is a good time to install the leveling kit. Monroe or Rancho are good ones. Monroe has some nice rear coil-overs that are not too expensive (in my opinion) on Rock Auto (good place to get parts in my opinion). I had a 2" leveling kit on my last dakota, and it was just fine, but i dont know how that will work on my current dakota, as it has full-time 4x4 and has a few klunks in it right now, but thats cause it needs some TLC.

Thanks for the warm welcome and i'll get some pics as soon as I can.

I would like to get a CAI at some point but I don't have the $$ for that, the suspension and leveling kit. Is there a mod I can make to the stock air box like drilling holes in the bottom of it to get better air flow? I did pick up a Sceptre air filter for it today.

I do have 4x4 and was thinking about going with a 1.5" leveling kit just to stay on the safe side.

Welcome. Here is my homemade CAI. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...emade-cai.html You bought the most expensive part already, the Sceptre air filter All you need now is some 3" AVS Pipe, ABS Glue and a grommet kit. Then you too will have yourself a homemade CAI.
