That's actually pretty good. I average 22mpg mostly highway. But that's at 55-65 mph, with 3.55's. Drop speed, you should jump up well above 20.

Can do it but it takes work....
My Dak has been from Atlanta to Miami and back on three trips. I can get between 19mpg and 21.9mpg highway depending on how I drive. (Quad cab, 2wd, 4.7, 3.92 gear)
If I just park the cruise control somewhere around 75mph I will get between 19.2 and 19.6 (gallons into miles driven).
If I park the cruise at 70mph it will get between 19.6 and 20.3 (gallons into miles)
If I keep it between 65mph and 70mph, no cruise and trail a rig part of the trip it'll get 21+ pretty consistently. Made a effort to maximize mileage on a leg from Orlando to Miami once and was able to squeeze 22.6 out of it. (Tires at 38psi, 65 -68mph, drafting a rig sometimes, etc)
This truck is hard to beat EPA estimates. I can get 35mpg out of my Sentra Spec-V pretty easily on highway runs when it is only rated at 28. Same for my wifes Mazda5. Can get 33 out of it on the interstate. Getting 20 out of the Dakota is a struggle sometimes.

Not quite. I've gotten a best 19.1 mpg on a 1400 mile trip through the mountains. My auxiliary tank is 33 gallons on top of the factory 22 gallon tank. I've never run my main tank below 1/3 on any long distance drive.
