Default I thought we took 6qts?

So i just changed my oil and filter, and poured in 6qts. I checked the level and it was below the add mark. I ran it for 2 min to cycle through and it still read the same. So I drove down the street to a level area and checked again. Sure enough it was below the add line. So i figured i must have screwed up and only put in 5 qts. I added another and after letting it set at work for 8 hours, I checked it before i left and it is perfectly right below the top of the safe hash marks. I went home and counted 6 empty qts and one in my truck. How the heck did my truck take 7 qts? No leaking, I didnt spill, and it has always taken 6 qts!

Before the turbo I always put in 6 1/2 qts. After the turbo I took it to 7 because the small sump tank that I added.

But yeah...the manual lied to us..

It's actually 6.3 quarts if I remember reading some place. I just call it 6, less oil in the crank= more power

What is this a civic forum? Are we so desperate for HP's we're keeping the bare minimum of fluids in the vehicle?

What kind of oil is it? Maybe they weren't full quarts and it took 7 qt bottles to equal 6 qts. It wouldn"t be unheard of for the fill machines at the plant to be off. You can see it in soda bottles all the time. Oil bottles... well, you can't see thru em to see how full they really are. I know, if you hold them up to a good light you can. But, who does that with a new bottle?

Yeah mine barely hit the safe mark last time I changed it so I added somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of another quart to bring it up. Of course this will screw you up if you buy a case of 12... Not sure if this matters, but I was putting in chevron conventional oil 5W-30 from Costco. I also was using a purolator pureone filter.
