Default Ford SVT injectors...

I tried installing the SVT injectors as some on here have done and ran into a issue.

-Install was simple
-Engine was hard to start and had a rough idle (Every time I started it)
-Got codes for bank 1 & 2 too rich
-As the engine ran longer it ran better, but never perfect

Anyone else have this issue or have any thoughts on it?

You need a custom tune or your just dumping more fuel into the cylinders. Hence running rich.

+1. The computer is still looking for the Dodge injectors, it has no way to know you switched.

The reason it ran better the longer it ran is because the computer is leaning out the mixture as much as it can using the other sensors' inputs, but it can only do so much if its expecting one type of injector and you have another. You definitely need a custom computer tune.

If you have a 2006 or older, Sean (hemifever) can hook you up with a SCT programmer and a custom tune that will run them quite well. hemifever@aol.com

I bought some 39# injectors for mine because one member on here installed this size injectors without a tune and his truck ran fine, but the more I read the more I realized I would need a custom tune to realize the full benefits. I already had superchips so I didn't want to invest in an SCT on top of that. Superchips canned tunes don't account for injector size so a true "custom tune" from hemifever would be the ojnly route to go as long as your truck is 06 or older.

Ya, I read someone just dropped them in with no problem and maybe if I drove it long enough it would lean out enough but a tune would be the best way to do it. I have an '06 so I'll hit up Hemifever and see what he can do for me.

Hit him up..meanwhile you might want the stockers back in there. Nick ran these on a 3.7L. Yes, same motor minus 2 cylinders but what power gains did he get? I just remember it sounded weird at idle probably because they had a different spray pattern than ours. I think with a tune the injectors will help more with efficiency than power

I put the stock ones right back in. I guess I should say that I have the 3.7L, sorry I left that out lol. I picked up a set of 8 for cheap so I figured I'd give them a try and see cause I've heard different things as well as to weather or not this swap is worth it. And at worse I could sell them on Ebay for more than I paid for them so no real loss.

An wideband gauge install maybe beneficial as well to get a more exact tuning.
