Default Full-sized double din in my 2006 Dakota

Here it is, folks. Did the custom work myself.

I'm not a professional, as you can probably tell.

I don't recommend measurements, especially since the fronts of all headunits are different. I recommend trimming a small amount from the radio dash plate a little bit at a time with a very sharp wood chisel. That's what I did.

If your unit is as large as mine, you will also find the space inside the dashboard isn't large enough to fit the unit inside.

Looks like a good job, enjoy.

And out of curiosity, which model radio is it?

And Welcome to DF.

It's an Eonon G2103U, a Chinese headunit.

How did you mount it to the dashboard? and what did you have to cut out to make it fit?

I had to take a reciprocating saw and cut out the entire plastic shelf the original radio sat on. I left the mounting screw holes in place, as they fit any universal mounting kit.

The back of the larger radio just barely sits on top of the main structural beam that runs through the back of the dash. I put a shim between it and the bottom of the radio.

The thin plastic piece that sits between the radio cavity and the vents also had to come out.

Default 2005 Dodge Dakota Alpine INE W960 Install

Nice job. I am getting ready to buy the Alpine INE W960 Nav unit for my 2005 Dodge Dakota? The dimensions are 7x315/16x61/2. Would the 6 1/2 inch depth fit in the cavity? Thank you

I see that that unit posted above, Eonon G2103U, has a depth of 6.69 inches (170mm), so you should be good with your Alpine INE W960 (165mm).

Welcome aboard.
