Receiving 2005 as a gift
My grandfather is giving me his 2005 Dakota 4x4 since he can no longer drive. It only has about 25,000 miles on it and still has the original tires. It is the regular 4.7 club cab automatic. Is there any areas I need to look at closely for possible trouble areas? I'm assuming all fluids besides oil is original.
I plan to level the front and put on 265/75 16 inchers for a more aggressive look. I hope to learn a lot from the good people here.

Will check on the front end steering and drivetrain. I don't plan on going to far from home with it until I am confident there are no issues with it.

Welcome to DF. Wish someone would give me a 4.7 Dakota....lol...Things to check on the front end:
Sway bar end links, ball joints, CV joints and boots, struts. The tie rod ends, ball joints and struts go pretty quick on these trucks. Since it is 4x4, don't go over 2" on the leveling kit or the front end will self destruct much sooner. My suggestion is to install new struts (monroe or rancho are your best bet, KYB also makes them for these trucks), put the leveling kit in while your at it, replace the tie rod ends and ball joints if possible. Use quality aftermarket (Moog) parts, not dealer stuff, that will just break again. Once you get the fron end taken care of, save up for a Superchips tuner....you will be simply amazed at the difference it will make in the performance of the truck. Many other mods can also add some HP (e-fan, Hipotek throttle body, sonnax line pressure booster, CAI, etc), but the superchips is the best bang for the buck, imo.
