Im 90% sure the transmission needs to be replaced with a OEM 4.7L One, or Aftermarket one compatible with the 4.7L.
You will also need the 4.7L PCM, ECU, and Engine Bay wiring Harness, and maybe even other stuff, If my 3.7L goes im Def swapping or buying a 4.7L haha

Yes, you will need the tranny. The transmission in the 3.7L V6 trucks is not strong enough to handle the 4.7L V8's power/torque.

+1 for what Reject all said.

Lets find out if the original poster has an auto or a manual first. The manual is the same trans that was offered for the 4.7L.

Good point. Manual, he'll be OK. Automatic, he'll have to swap.

They are all the same, if memory serves. The 3.7L is just a 6 cylinder version of the 4.7L.

You're talking 10+ years down the road. As much as I like my Dakota, I hope we'll all be able to upgrade by then and not piecing these things together like Cubans.

why go with the 4.7? You will probably have a LOT to change, why not go 5.7? I mean if you are gonna do that much work, ya ought to do a little bit more. Just my .02 cents.
