Default changing dexcool to green

Its about time i change my coolant as well as my upper and lower radiator hose. So i was thinking since im going to flush i might as well switch to the green coolant.

-Anyone done this? or advise/against it?
-Dexcool eats at gaskets so i figure i should switch while i can

*as long as it won't hurt the truck i think im going for it. I will completely flush my radiator and get all the dexcool out b/c i know if the two mix it will solidify.

You should use the Mopar coolant or the Zerex G-05. They last the longest in these trucks... 5 years/150,000 miles supposedly. I had the Dodge do my flush and I've added the Zerex to it when I did the thermostat.

thanks thats good to know, i looked more into the zerex g-05, its supposed to be compatible with the already dexcool in my truck correct?

-strangely i saw the zerex color of being green or yellow, but i will probably go with the golden looking jug.

I bought the premixed 50/50 G-05 and it's relatively clear as I recall. This is HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) based coolant. I'm not sure if it is compatible with Dexcool. If it were me... I would flush your system and use a chemical flush and put all Zerex in... I could be wrong, but I didn't think these engines used Dexcool... thought only GM used that.

Here's what the service manual says:
CAUTION: Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769) may not be mixed with any
other type of antifreeze. Mixing of coolants other than specified non-HOAT or other HOAT coolant, may
result in engine damage that may not be covered under the new vehicle warranty, and decreased corrosion
protection.

Yeah... I think the orange coolant is the Mopar HOAT color unless someone did actually put dexcool in there.

I replaced mine with Prestone three years ago after a complete cooling system drain and flush. Getting ready to do it again. According to a local radiator Guru, you should flush the system and replace the coolant every 36 months to prolong the life of the aluminum radiator.
