@jkeaton, there's canned tunes for the transmission already on there after I update it? I don't have to pay for them?
@ltngblt02, you have to run at least 91 octane with the tow tune?

You are supposed to run the tow tune with 91 octane. At lower elevations, you can usually get away with running 89-91 octane tunes with 87 octane fuel. At higher elevations, not so much. I run 91 octane non-ethanol fuel with the 91 octane tune, and I get pinging. I run it with the tow tune, and I get far less pinging, but will still occasionally get it at certain times during WOT.

Yes. Each "tune" contains modifications to shift schedules. Do some research on the product through the website and the superchips forum. Read the other posts regarding octane. It is "recommended" to run 91 octane with the tow tune, as I have previously stated a couple times already, I was able to run 87 with no issues. Like Jason says, it may be elevation dependant.

Yeah at least 91, I typically run 92 or 93 with no ping. It only amounts to $4 a tank more for the higher octane.

I get the same thing. However, I thought that higher elevations allowed use of lower octane, that's why we have this stupid 86/88 instead of 87/89. Even at stock the truck doesn't like 86.

It is supposed to. However, at my elevation, we are right at the cut-off between 87/89 and 86/88. So if gas stations try to sell the weaker stuff, the vehicles don't like it. One of the gas suppliers to our area recently got caught selling 85 octane fuel and labeling it 87, and 89 as 91. Their claim was that otherwise they would run out and wouldn't be able to meet demand. Hog wash. They got taken to court, and the judge ruled they could do it in the western 33% of the state only, and they had to properly label it.

I wish we had some 92 or 93 around here. The few places that have 92 out here counteract it with 10% ethanol, so its actually 89 or 90 octane.

So, the tow tune requires at least 91, so I'll probably run 93 if I stick with the tow tune cause we don't have but 87, 89, and 93 around here.
And I looked on their website and forum but I can't find anything except people troubleshooting.
