Spark gap way off
Hello all, i'm new here. I have looked at a lot of threads but nothing quit hits the mark for me. can someone help me out please?
I have a 2007 dodge dakota 3.7L. The truck has run verry good for me. I was getting around 18 to 19 mpg hwy. I just had to do a tune up at 144000 miles. I used the sugested replacement plugs and set the gap at 44. altho I checked every plug that came out and every one was set at 75, (huge differance there). But anyway the truck is running as good as ever but with one big diferance. my gas milage has gone straight down the tubes. I now get about 15 mpg hwy. All i did was change the plugs and air filter. can someone help me out please?

You could try resetting your computer. It probably "learned" to run with that large of gap, so now that you adjusted it, it isn't compensating correctly/quickly. Resetting it will force it to learn again.
To do this, disconnect your battery. You can either turn on the headlights afterwards, or wait half an hour or a little more. Either way should drain any residual charge out of the system. Then reconnect the battery.
You will get the same or not much better MPGs at first as the computer relearns, but it will eventually get better and better until you are back in your old range.

Will resetting the ECM help after a spark plug change? My '06 had copper core plugs and they were completely worn out. Just changed them to Champion Platinum and the first time I checked the MPG it was 14.
