trucks 4wd service light came and tried dropping it into 4 lo around 70 mph today, what a scaring thing to happen, pulled off highway and shut off truck, waited a few minutes, fired it up and away I went, guess it's time to change the fluid and the transfer case switch
This is how I justify not having 4wd, it might try to kill me some day! Hope its going ok for ya
There is a safety algorithm built into the PCM program that even with a selection to 4Lo, it won't even try to shift if the conditions aren't right. The Owner's Manual gives you the criteria that will allow the shift to happen - this protects the truck as well as it's occupants.

I still like having the old-fashioned shift lever so I'm in control of when it shifts, not some algorithm.
That's some scary **** guys..hope your truck isn't mad at you superdak. Man, I barely use 4wd. Only in snowstorms and what not although I plan to have some fun with my Cooper ATIII's when take the 20's off in a month

I agree, the manual shift is a lot more reliable & simpler, and if you wanted to blow up the t-case with a stupid shift, you had that opportunity - it was your decision. I think "idiot proofing" has really gone too far and gets really expensive to fix when it fails. In most cases you can't revert to "simple" any more.
I use the Dana 300 on my Jeep, it's almost bullet proof.
