Dodge Dakota Rust Warranty
Hi all,
2009 Dodge Dakota 4.7 v8 4x4
Just wondering what is the policy by dodge on the rust warranty,
I have been having lots of rust showing on the doors and a bit on the box,
all the rust shows on the bottom panel section on 4 doors and one side on the box bottom section, the rear bumper shows rust on the end edges, the truck is still under warranty for another month, I heard there is warranty on the outer panels for 5 years or 100,000 km , the rust on doors show on the front edge back doors and the back edge front doors, there is also rust on front frame just in front of radiator...
4 year old truck , I'm really worried , yes I live in Canada where we have lengthy winters but there is plenty of other trucks my friends drive with no rust issues at all... one buddy got a ranger 2006 not a spot of rust....
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a bit of rust too on the edges like you say. Just keep it clean, touch it up if need be. Its bound to happen. You cant blame Dodge, blame the EPA and their new regulations and the hippies...
This is from my warranty papers.
2.2 Corrosion Warranty
A. Who Is Covered?
You are covered if you are a purchaser for use of
the vehicle.
B. What's Covered
This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor
needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels
that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole
occurs because of something other than corrosion,
this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface
corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone
chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered.
For more details on what isn’t covered by this
warranty, see 3.5.
C. How Long It Lasts
This warranty starts when your Basic Limited
Warranty begins under 2.1(E).
This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits:
• For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months,
with no mileage limit.
• For an outer-body sheet metal panel — one
that is finish-painted and that someone can
see when walking around the vehicle — the
limits are 5 years or 100,000 miles on the
odometer, whichever occurs first.
3.5 Certain Kinds of Corrosion Not
Covered
Your warranties don’t cover the following:
• corrosion caused by accident, damage, abuse,
or vehicle alteration;
• surface corrosion caused by such things as
industrial fallout, sand, salt, hail, and stones;
• corrosion caused by the extensive or abnormal
transport of caustic materials like chemicals,
acids, and fertilizers; and
• corrosion of special bodies, body conversions,
or equipment that was not on your vehicle when it
left the manufacturing plant or was not supplied by
DaimlerChrysler.

thanks for the reply,
I will post pictures of the affected panels this evening,
what are the chances of dealer repainting the truck under rust warranty ?
none ? lol , slight , or quite possible ?
I'll return with photos.

Yeah I'd like to see it
Its worth a shot.
I have one fender well that has rust at the joint... I took a die grinder and a wire brush attachment and cleaned the area up and used some rustoleum flat black paint and covered it all. I plan on scuffing up some more paint in that area and recoating it with more paint soon. My front radiator support has minor rust, bubbling paint, and staining at the interior sides that I need to clean an d repaint

Sorry to hear about your rust concerns on your Dakota. It is best to have the area reviewed at the first signs and taken care of before it gets worse. If corrosion damage is neglected and allowed to worsen until holes develop, the warranty will not cover the repair.
The outer panel corrosion warranty is a 5 year or 100,000km, whichever occurs first, coverage. An outer body panel is a sheet metal which can be seen while walking around the vehicle and is painted the body colour. The warranty applies to holes that are covered by corrosion. Cosmetic and surface corrosion (from stone chips or scratches in the paint, for example) will not be repaired under the warranty.
The vehicle will have to be looked at and diagnosed by a Dodge dealer before there can be any confirmation that the repairs will be covered. If you would like assistance in reviewing the concerns with a dealer or have any questions please PM me and I'd be happy to help.
How often do you wash the truck, especially in the winter? Mine is only a year newer, and not a single sign of rust anywhere.
I wash it during the summer about once every two weeks, and at least once a month during the winter. There is a good manual, high pressure wash place just down the road from my house with heated water and semi-heated bays.

Has the door ever been repaint?
The first and the third photograph I can see happening from normal use. I have a minor spot like the first photograph from chipped paint, but I have since cleaned it and touched it up. The other photographs are an issue that should be warranted if the door has never been touched IMO unless, do they use a lot of sand in the area when the roads are slick? Ask the dealer to look at it.

Yes the door had been retouched last year and all the rusting areas,
this makes me sick though when I look at friends cars / truck older than mine, and they have no rust spots showing, my friends 2006 ranger is in mint condition, concidering him driving on a graver road camping at least 20 times a year..., my truck is a highway queen , I go camping / fishin maybe 6 times a year where I occasinally drive on gravel road...
I was wondering if Katie from DodgeCAcares can evaluate my photos and perhaps comment as what can be done by the dealer ? if anything...
I love the truck but the paint problem I am very disappointed...
also wanted to comment that it is kind of retarded that this truck had been discontinued ..., I would trade in for a new Dakota in a blink of an eye,
instead I may have to go with Tacoma as there is no local medium size trucks available any more and I do not need a full size truck as what I do does not require one...
Cheers !
