Question Help Does anyone know if there is wiring for front seats?

Ive got a 2006 Dakota and its the 3.7 auto completely standard with roll uo windows no door locks no tilt steering with the cloth seats and fold down middle seat with no console opening. I want to know if I take the front seats out will there be wiring harness for the electric seats that were a option for the nicer dakotas. Does anyone know? Im not sure what the lowest dakota was named maybe SL or STwhichever that is the one I have. If there is no wiring harness located under the carpet, from what I understand, a positive and a negative can be wired to it and it will work, is this true? If that is true what would be the wire colors of the positive and negative? I cant be the 1st to do this...Please help any info is appreciated. Im supposed to go and buy the electronic seats Monday/Tomorrow

If I recall correctly, the St does not have the harness and the seats will need to be wired in with just +12v and N- into the switch. Once I stumble home from the bar, I'll double check. I have a power seat from a 99 Durango in my 11 Dakota st.

Ok well it is what it is, can you tell me what colors are positive and negative? And why so many wires in the harness if only 2 are needed? Whats the deal with that is is for heated or cooled seats or something? 16 wires but only 2 are needed? Doesnt make sense to me...But thanks for any help I can get I just want to replace broken seats with nicer ones without having to rebuild the entire truck

Whet hes saying is there is no harness and you will need to run your own wires.

Depending on what the seats are from the colors and sizes might be different. I'm using an 04 and 05 Durango seat as reference. Looking at the wiring harness for both - attached to the seat itself, there are multiple data wires that are about 18-22 gauge and two power wires of much larger gauge. These wires are a 12-14 gauge red wire with a gray stripe and a solid black wire of 14-16 gauge. These two wires run from where the seat connects to the chassis harness to the power seat switch; the power is then redistributed to the motors from there. Splicing into those wires should provide power to the entire seat assembly, but you may need to match up or transfer over the seat position sensor - blue/white and blue/black - and the seat belt sensor - green/grey and green/beige.

As for where to get power, I used the accessory outlet in the center console and grounded through the seat frame. It will have enough power to move the seat as needed until you reach the end of the track, then if you keep holding the switch it will burn out the fuse. I haven't had any issues with the setup so far as I generally set the seat and don't have a reason to move it. If you have another driver it may be a good idea to run 10 gauge wire to the battery and use an in line fuse rated for 25 amps. If you want to get really fancy you can also run it through a relay so it will only work when the ignition is on.

If by chance you have heated seats as well, give me a few weeks/months as I'm slowly chipping away at that one as I have time.

Thanks Ive not gotten them yet they are a few hrs away and it was raining I also hope they are not taller than the cheap manual seats as I dont have tilt steering column btw my console doesnt have extra power outlet its just a seat but I think the one im getting might since it opens and mine doesnt..I have no problem running a power wire to them and I think the negative shud be just grounded at the seats least thats my thinking

If it is a six way power seat, you will be able to adjust the height to an extent. It won't be much, but you can lower the height a bit below the manual frame. I agree that the seat frame isn't the best place for the ground, but as the only driver I can't remember the last time I moved it, so I'm not going to worry about it. Just out of curiosity, what vehicle are you getting the seats out of?

Seat covers are a good idea. Most of the damage I see on seats is from people not picking themselves off the seat to get out and just sliding off the edge; it tears the leather and quickly destroys the edge of the foam cushion. Also check to see which seats have the best cushions. The cushions are interchangeable side to side, so take the best condition cushion - likely from the passenger side - and put it in the driver seat. They will be held on by plastic clips on the underside and velcro on the seat itself. Or just take the whole bottom of the seat and switch it for the passenger, it should be held on by a few screws on the underside and lift right out.
