Default 06 slt 4.7 towing

Hey all. Just looking for some input. I bought a parts truck a little over 2 hours away and I need to get it home. My original plan was to rent a u haul car trailer and tow it home but u haul won't rent the trailer to me stating the load is larger than what the truck is rated for. Anyone towed a dakota with their dakota? Thinking about telling u haul I'm hauling a car.

yeah you could tow another dakota with no problem. My personal Dakota has the Heavy Duty and Towing package and is rated to tow nearly 9,000 pounds so I think youre fine even without the extra stuff

Door sticker lists your max towing weight. The max towing capacity is 7150 lbs. properly equipped. Not sure where you get 9000 lbs from. Can you tow more? Probably, but as you see, you can't do it legally. And if you get into an accident towing over capacity, good luck with your insurance.

Like I said, it can probably be done but If it’s over the towing limit, it’s not “safely”.

towing isn't the issue, you can tow a house if you want, stopping is the issue, I towed 3 tons of wood pellets with my ****box with ease, only issue was backing up. not much traction, but once moving it was fine, just remember keep truck in tow/haul mode, don't let it get into overdrive, that's when tranny issues happen and if you have the factory cooler for tranny that's a plus.

If towing a car any decent distance, I would put it on a 4 wheel trailer with brakes on it. The Dakotas with tow pkg have a trailer brake controller connection up under the dash and the controller is about 50 bucks from your local parts store. Point is, the trailer brakes along with your truck.

Ok, you have a 4.7L engine, what trans? Cab configuration? 2 or 4 wheel drive? Does it have a tow package?
