Default Engine Light Flashing and Driving Rough

I have an 06 Dakota with 174,000 miles on it. It has been a great vehicle. Now after the truck is warm, shut off, and then start up to drive shortly there after I have had the engine light flashing and the truck running real rough.

The codes pulled were Engine Misfire and also Closed Loop fueling not achieved.

Any experience with this or help would be greatly appreciated before I just start replacing parts in hopes of fixing?

What are the specific codes? That should narrow down what cylinders are causing the issue. Continuing to drive can result in damage also.

When I took it to O'Reilys that was the specific codes they said it pulled. Maybe their system is not as high tech as needed to be.

You need to have the exact code to identify which cylinder is misfiring.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) consist of a letter followed by at least 4 digits. Then the tools like O'Reilly's just looks up the English description. So they only told you the general description but we need to know the exact code to give you a helpful answer. Seems they just told you "Misfire" but the code that goes with that can get more specific. i.e. P0300 = General misfire, but P0304 = Misfire cylinder #4.

Am tedoing a head gasket on my 4.7 i lost two rocker arms on my cylinders 4&6 on the exhuast side passenger side head too. It sounds like what i went thru... overheating no reason no leaks and sounds like it is flooding but pops to get back to normal. Check the heads!

Get yourself an
<b>OBDII code</b> OBDII code
reader, everyone on these forums should have one, they are as cheap as
<b>$11</b> $11
nowadays.

Step 1 - replace the spark plugs. NGK V-Power, copper. DO NOT use platinum or iridium plugs.
Which engine is in your truck?

Yes. This.

Get back to basics and make sure regular maintenance items are in good shape. New spark plugs, clean air filter, etc. Visible inspection to make sure there are no loose or damaged vacuum or emission hoses.
