Default 06 4.7 cam swap questions

Hello, i've looked through the threads and I haven't been able to find a sure answer to this: I'm thinking of swapping cams for HO cams, are the cams the same or close to the same in 08+ 4.7s as the older HOs? Also anything i would need to be aware of if swapping to 08+ intake manifold? Lastly, does swapping the cams requirea tune? I would think so, but no one seems to mention it. Or are they similar enough the stock computer can read and adjust over some drive time? Thanks! By the way, i have a 2006 Dakota club cab 4.7 6spd MANUAL 4x4. Love it, but would also love a little bit more power too. Thanks again!

08+ cams in the 285ci variant have significantly more lift than either the HO or cams from the earlier 287ci version of the 4.7 and most say you should get the valve springs that go with them. 08+ manifold has drive by wire and you will need to buy more make an adapter plate for your drive by cable. Not sure about a tune.

Thanks for the reply, good info to know. Sounds like the 08+ may actually be preferable than. I was aware of the need for a thottle body adapter to make the 08+ intake manifold work, but also seems like the way to go, if possible. I'm assuming a good tuner would be advantageous, if not necessary to make the most of those mods. Thanks again, now just need to find the parts. . .

I have since found their site and the products they offer, very nice! Thanks for letting me know, though. Trouble i am having is finding 08+ cams. I thought by now they wouldn't be too hard to find in junkyards, but i've scoured 2 so far and found 0. The hunt continues. . .

I'll try that, most of the places i looked, like Rock auto or Summit, have cams for the early 4.7, but not the 08+ at least according to the numbers they post. I'll check this site out. Thanks!

I would verify the H.O. cams against the '08 cams just to make sure your hunting for the right part.

The 2008-2013 4.7L V8 has the same bore and stroke but with the different piston and head design it lost 2 cubic inches of displacement. Completely worth it for all that compression we gained.
