Default a/c compressor not engaging

Been having this issue off and on for the past 6 months. Sometimes the A/C would come on, other times not. Now I've got nothing all the time.
I checked the static refrigerant charge, it's good. I checked for power at the compressor clutch, nothing. I swapped the A/C relay out also.
I'm looking at the low pressure switch, it has 3 wires on it and I'm not sure how to jump that as I had done on other vehicles with 2 wires going to it.

Any ideas???

Here is a nice similar issue discussion, it should help.

Usually a new condenser is the fix. I'm sure that you checked all fuses, 11, 59, 62, & 67.

Thanks. I'll double check those fuses. I did pull the stereo bezel to see if I had something come loose as in the thread you posted, but all is securely plugged in.

Fuses all test good. Went to the junkyard today. Out of 5 Dakotas and Durangos every Climate control module was gone. Picked up a couple pressure sensors. Swapped out the pressure sensor. No change.
Going to order up a Climate control and try that then I guess off to a shop that has a scanner capable of diagnosing it.

So I missed a huge troubleshooting step by engaging the AC then unplugging it and testing for voltage with the truck running. Apparently the ECM cuts voltage if the clutch draws too much amperage. Tested again and got voltage at the clutch by engaging it unplugged. So replaced clutch and it's good.

So I'm back to square one. My new a/c clutch burnt. It still engages, but when I get to speeds 55 and above it lets go and I smell burning. Only lasted 3 months. I just took it apart to find some bearings missing and the coil slightly melted.

What I'm wondering is did I get a bad clutch? This was a generic I got off ebay.... Or is my compressor seizing at higher speeds? I can't seem to get it to hang up in the driveway. Trying to figure out my next move here. Pay up for a new compressor or try another clutch.

Normally, I'd do a bunch of testing. However, it sounds like your compressor may be on the way out.

I was just thinking that it's had a good run at 17 years. Best to change things now before something lets go in the compressor and get a mess in the lines.

I'm not a fan of throwing parts at a problem, but trash in the lines is a real stinker to clean out.
