Well how many miles are on your truck???

Usually takes some good corrosion or a lot of miles for a cat. to go bad

But if it's under warranty and being taken care of.......why care??
The problem starts when they can't fix it, if you ask me

If its your cat that should still be under warranty. GM warranties their cats for 88,000 miles. If they don't warranty it, get the catless Y-Pipe from the earlier HO motor and get some downstream O2 sims. MUCH cheaper and you'll have more power to boot.

I was told (but I never verified) that the Catless Y-pipe is available at the dealer for less than $60. For the 02 sims I haven't really looked around yet. Basically any 02 sim would work, just need the right plugs on the ends.

My truck did just this. Buy a new fuel tank cap and try it. The locking one is less than $40.00. The shop had trouble finding why my ck eng light came on as well.

you guys should do what i do when these lights come on. put a businesscard over it on the dash. problem solved. i've never had a car/truck quit running or breakdown because of the check engine light. i think it's a gimmick for the stealership to get you in. if it covered under warranty they get paid. if it's not under warranty, they still get paid. 1 big damn conspiracy

Um, well... A CEL can be a window to a serious problem. A lot of times they are codes that can be irritating, however, if your motor is shuddering and you can't find the solution, that CEL will allow you to see what your computer has to say about it. Covering up a CEL and not just fixing the problem is the fastest way to guarantee that you will have serious engine troubles down the road. Your Ineffecient Cat Converter code, which you could care less about, could be covering your Crank Position Sensor code, that if goes unchecked, could ruin your motor.

Just my $.02

I let my light go on my last truck cuz I was sick of sinking money into it. One day the timing chain breaks and the motor is scrap metal.

Yeah... so I have a 06 Dakota now and life is good!
