Thinking about a 2011 Durango or Tahoe to tow a travel trailer which has a GVWR of about 5,000Lbs.

I know the Durango with the V6 can tow 6,200 Lbs, but I cannot find the tongue weight capacity.

Can any of you guys point me in the right direction?

Does the Durango come with Trailer Sway Control?

Also, do any of you guys tow with the Durango; and if so, what are your overall thoughts on the towing ability.

Thanks, but I cannot find max tongue weight anywhere.

 

10 percent rule: tongue weight should be no more than 10% (620lbs in this case). The 5000lb trailer should have a tongue weight of 500lbs or less so you should be ok.

 

For the AWD 5.7 with tow package max GTW (Gross Trailer Weight) is 7,200lbs and max trailer tongue weight is 720lbs, 3.6 w/ awd is 6200/620 per the manual. And it does have trailer sway control.

Oh, I will be, my boat is still shrink wraped for the winter.

 

I have the 5.7 AWD citadel with every option offered and i just towed my boat about 5,500 lbs and i didnt even know it was there. I went about 15 miles and hit 60 no problem with it.

 

Good to hear. I can't wait to get mine back on the water. Although, we are currently under a winter storm warning up here in the Black Hills. lol Maybe I'll give the new Durango a thorough winter handling test instead.

 

Keep us posted on how it handles in snow.
The Durango is on my hit list for later this year, but a test drive on the worst road conditions is a must before I spend big $$$ on a new SUV again. I have learned my lesson with my 07 MDX. Utterly hopeless on snow-covered roads.
