Default Transmission question

Hey guys

My AWD V8 citadel has 1300 miles and I recently noticed that when I put the car into neutral from drive after driving, a loud clunk sound occurs. I spoke with the service department at the dealership in which they spoke with the engineers at Chrysler and said that this is normal since most SUVs muffle that sound. There's a valve replacement that I can proceed with to lessen the clunk sound however Chrysler is saying that it can also make it worse in which they won't be able to do anything about if it worsens.

Decided to hold off on the valve replacement for the transmission as I told the service guy to see if other durangos are experiencing the same thing. He said there was a Cherokee with a hemi doing something similar to what I'm experiencing.

My question is has anyone experienced the clunking sound in their transmission for the hemi when going from drive to neutral after driving the car?

Thanks

I have an R/T with 150 miles on it and twice I heard the clunk you are talking about. Mine isn't that loud but now I'm curious to see if it gets worse with more miles.

I'm thinking about going to another dealership and test driving another citadel with v8 to see if same thing happens. Im frustrated with the service manager telling me this is normal when he only tried it on one other car which was not even a Durango! Especially since some of you guys aren't experiencing this

I have a Citadel AWD model as well with the 2-speed transfer case there is a definite thud or clunk as you shift out of drive. It is normal. Those that aren't noticing it, which transmission do you have? Do you have the NAG1 (W5A580) or the 545RFE (2-speed)

Well I got the Citadel AWD also with the 545RFE tranny, nothing is out of the ordinary. To the OP can you post a video of your clunking/thud issue?

^ car is still at the dealership. I'll probably have the car tomorrow so if Chrysler says its normal I'll shoot a video to the clunk sound.
