I'd like a hitch for a bike rack, wondering if it makes sense to get a D with factory tow pkg if its not much more than the dealer installed hitch. Have no plans to actually tow anything, but tow pkg could add to resale down the road I guess.
Dealer quoted $540 including labor, but he threw it in when I bought the D.

Any more info on this? This is what Dodge says...

"The available rear load-leveling suspension adjusts the ride height of Durango, depending on the combined weight of the passengers and cargo it is carrying, for optimum handling and control."

Found this info. Anyone can confirm on their D?

"Durango features available premium load leveling rear shocks. These shocks mechanically pump up when the vehicle has added rear payload. When the payload is initially added the car will squat like standard suspension, but as the shock is stroked (during normal driving), the gas pressure will increase until the shock reaches the level design height (Included in the trailer tow package)."

They do what it says? I hitched up our 5000lb boat/trailer this past weekend and the rear end did squat as I lowered the trailer onto the hitch. After turning the car on, nothing happens. But as I drove around the backyard to get to the front driveway, by the time I was in the front driveway, everything looked levelled out to me. Towed the boat with two adults, four kids and a dog. Then filled the D up with gas, was basically empty. Always seemed to be level to me.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. This mechanical pump must be really silent. Or is there a hydraulic or air pump at all? Perhaps another system is doing the work.

p.s. Your still taking your boat out and I have been snowmobiling/ice fishing for 2 weeks now.

Edit: For info on the rear self leveling go here:
