My new 2011 Crew didn't have a trailer hitch so I had the dealer throw one in. It appears to be a after market hitch I think as I have not had it in to be installed yet. Has anyone had any experience with the dealer adding a hitch to a 2011 crew. My dealer service man told me this was their first one so I have some concerns on how it will affect the rear bumper.
Thanks

My dealer added a trailer hitch to my Citadel. Just the hitch, not the towing pkg. I haul aroud a bike rack. I had to cover the hole where the electric would go, but it looks factory. The salesman said it was installed by the body shop for a cleaner install. The body shop guy is ****, per the sales guy. They did a great job.
Thanks for the input. I have both great jobs and jobs to watch out for so I'm going to take pictures of the car opener job and show what I don't want.
JJPonzini Do you have any wiring for a trailer if you want to pull it. I'm hoping and assuming they would do the wiring also. I understand about the engine options not being included.

I won't be pulling a trailer. My wife's idea of camping is a hotel with no room service LOL. I have only pulled a trailer once in 15 years, so I wasn't looking for a tow package. Just a hitch. I covered the wiring plug hole with a piece of black painted plastic. I just use the hitch for a bike rack that I use all summer. If I was going to pull a trailer, I would opt for the factory tow pkg and get the HD radiator, proper wiring etc.. even if I had to special order the vehicle.
They threw in the hitch as part of the new car deal, knowing it was just going to be used for the bike rack.
Let me know if you would like pics.

If I could get one it would help me decide to let them do it or not.

I just had the dealer add a hitch to our new 2012. It looks factory. It includes the 4 pin and 7 pin connector.
The service manager told me that our VIN will be updated to show it has the hitch so it's covered under the factory warranty. I wouldn't pay for an aftermarket job.

The dealer installation procedures states the VIN must be updated with the sales code of the added accessory in order to enable system functionality AND to be noted as a dealer installed option [therefore its use is covered under the warranty].
Dodge Durango Warranty states an accessory must be a MOPAR/Chrysler part and installed by an authorized Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram dealer. Therefore damage caused by this accessory's use within the vehicle specs would be covered under the factory warranty [Pg 14 Section 3.1 of the Warranty]. Note I believe the Vehicle's manual says the towing limit is 3500 lbs without the factory tow package.
Dealer installed my new hitch today and it looks like a factory install. I can see no difference in a factory installed hitch or my dealer installed one. It includes both wiring connectors also.
