2012 Prospective Buyer Questions
Oh ok, I thought you had some useful things to add to the list/thread.
Are you really going to compare cars on which has the most powerful ventilated seats? "ooh, this one really cools my butt...forget about the fact that it can't tow my boat..."
Does it really make a difference if 5-7 years from now you have to pay an extra 100 bucks to have someone else change the battery? "wow, this one has the battery right where I can see it...forget about the fact that it doesn't have a V8..."
Even the wheels can very easily be swapped out if you don't like them. Or you could load up a different trim level that has nicer wheels.
If any of these things are going to make your decision to buy a D vs. an Exp, or Tahoe, or ??? then you really don't like the D. On the other hand, if you like the D, then NONE of these things should sway your decision in anyway.
You can't custom build a vehicle unless you have millions of dollars to spend. Instead you are just a slug like the rest of us going into a dealership and picking something that's available. Whereas if you are the sultan of Oman, you go to Chrysler with a few mill, and tell them you want a Durango with gold stitched seats, orange paint, a V12 engine, a magnetohelical suspension, surround cameras, armoured doors, etc. etc., and they build it for you.

I think what he was trying to say - was the concerns you list are all minor or cosmetic. If you had some major concerns like - I cant fit my entire family in there or the towing capacity wont manage my 20,000 camper then you have a reason to not consider it.
If its just little stuff like wheels & batteries then you should grab it up & enjoy it!
I beleive he was also trying to say - you have to give up something no matter what vehicle you buy because everyone buys off the shelf. So if all you give up is a hot butt you are in good shape!
I remember way back in the day when trucks didn't even have cooled seats! Can you imagine the sweaty ***'s that sat on those seats! Yuck. The world is a much better place today that it was in 2010!
Enjoy the new durango - if your's is like mine you will get compliments and questions where every you go. The new design is just bad *** if you ask me.

But wow, that other SUV's vented seats can blow the poop back up my butt -- now that's the car for me!
This thread is funny, but seriously buy the Durango you would be hard pressed to find another suv this nice with all the bells and whistles . I own a challenger and hear on their forums about people debating between a camaro and challenger, if you have have to ask don't buy dodge, go buy some other crap.

True I looked hard at the Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Highlander, FJ Cruiser, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty, and Chevy Tahoe. None offered what the D did for the price. It came down to the 4 Runner and D and the D was 5K less with leather than a base 4Runner.
I know this thread is a little dated, but wife got her Citadel today. I was talking to a buddy who works at the dealership (he's a fellow diesel performance addict and stealership mechanic) about the sluggishness off the line. He says the traction control system is purposefully designed to retard engine performance to reduce the possibility of wheel slippage; you can't light up the rear tires if you wanted to. However, (and I haven't tried it... yet...) if you turn off the traction control, you supposedly get a noticeably "improved" off-the line feel, which I intend to test tomorrow
Interesting. I have the v6 & awd. Honestly the wife doesnt drag race with it so 0 to 60 isnt a deal breaker for us, but getting almost 30 mpg on the highway is. Ill try that trick today too. Might help when I pull the trailer

I'm trading in my 170K mile 2005 Durango AWD Hemi on a 2012 Hemi Citadel. My 2005 has an open exhaust and K&N but is otherwise stock. The 2012, even with 25 more factory HP did not seem as peppy, and quieter than I prefer (will have to address that). I already have a K&N on order and it should arrive about the day I take delivery - they have to bring one in from another dealer to get the Mineral Gray I wanted.
As far as MPG, I'm anxious to see how this does. My 2005 gets 17-18 average, mostly highway driving, and I have averaged over 22 on a 600 mile trip with some city driving. It will be interesting to see how the 2012 does with cylinder de-activation and more power.
