HELP! Dealer says to "pick out whatever I want" in response to my defective 2012 Crew
Yup, insurance had a slight increase of $11! I am hoping I can have the dealer somehow get my payment down to $480 WITH the Maximum Care! Not sure how that will pan out for me but it's worth a shot.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Personally, budget allowing, I would go for the new vehicle since it isn't that much more. $380 vs $490. However, I don't know anything about your finances.
Keep in mind that your insurance will probably go up $10-15 more per month on the more expensive model. You might check with your insurance company to get an exact number.

I just picked up a 2013 crew with hemi, leather, rear captains, sunroof, dvd, 20inch rims, nav, back up cam, just about everything they offer for $37,900. Im in N.Y. so It kinda sounds like they could do a little better on the price.
NICE!!! Thanks for the info. I'd rather have the rear DVD Entertainment Package than the Nav but we'll see what they can do!
Well, Tax on Cali is more expensive than other State, so... Uncle Sam kinda got in the way.
Invoice are usually legit. These Durango and Grand Cherokee really doesnt have a lot of negotiation rooms. If they sold you the car at Invoice + Tax, Title, etc... your dealer probably only made like $500 off the sale. After paying their salesman and stuff, there really isn't much profit from selling new cars.
Regarding the Max Care, Usually the price can be negotiated up to like 20-30% off the Listed price on Chrysler's website. And it really depend on how long you want to cover it. Keep in mind, Engine and Trans is 5yr-100k. If all you buy is 2 more yr of Max Care Waranty, you might as well just save up those money and take the chance, pay out of ur pocket if something break, you will still come out ahead.
Usually even bumper to bumper item problems arise over 75kmiles. I hardly seen customer spend thousands of dollar on repair before a car even hit 60k miles. You probably will just spend money on brakes, oil change, and tires...

OH GOD, Please don't do it. Built in DVD player f*cking suck. They are so expensive, hard to fix when something goes wrong, and software is buggy with limited function. the function just doesn't justify to price. Just go buy a Portable DVD players for ur kids off Ebay or something. Hell, with those money, just go buy a freaking iPad and strap them on the back seat.
Okay boys.... so here is a quick update! First of all, thanks for all of your advice and support! I'm hoping to make a decision here soon....
Although I am fully aware that it all comes down to what I can afford, I would like to hear your thoughts on the price that I am being offered, as well as your opinions on the extended bumper to bumper warranty, also known as Maximum Care. Please note that my deductible is $150 and it was offered to me for $1895. Not sure if it matters but I am in San Diego, CA. So here goes....
The dealers is offering me this 2013 Durango Crew V6 ( http://www.carlburger.com/new/Dodge/...e5322abac4.htm ) for $33,850! I don't have the best credit and I had a BK that was discharged about 10 months ago so they got me a 4.99%. With the $5k I put down being applied to the new Durango, my payment without the Maximum Care extended warranty would be $489 per month! I do value the fact that the Maximum Care Warranty would help ease my mind about any problems that might arise after the 36k miles, however paying the extra $30 for the warranty would push the total monthly payment too far beyond my budget. I would take this deal in a heartbeat if the total WITH the extended warranty was $489, and I do know that these types of warranties are negotiable so this might be an option.
I am on the fence and the dealer is just waiting for my response. Either I keep my 2012 Crew with 23k miles which I got for $24k and enjoy my monthly payments of $380.... or fork up an extra $100 bucks or so and get the 2013.
Again, I am mainly wanting to know your thoughts on the price that is being offered for the 2013 (please click the link and check out the specs), as well as your opinions on the Maximum Care Extended Warranty. Also, the dealer showed me the invoice of $36k and some change. Is that accurate? I don't believe that's what the dealer paid since they are asking just under $38k for it, but I'm no expert.
Thanks again, guys!

Keep in mind that you can purchase a Mopar Service Plan up until the vehicle reaches 4 years or 48,000 miles, so not buying the service contract right now does not mean you will never be able to get one. The only coverage the Maximum Care plan will provide you under the 3/36 warranty will be rental and trip interruption coverage. Chrysler also offers up to a 36 month interest free payment plan on their service contracts so if you did buy it later you will not have to come up with the money all at once. The big question here is what plan they are selling you for that price? Post up the exact plan you are thinking about getting and I can tell you the suggested retail of it and then you can make a decision based on all the info. All I am saying is that if the service contract cost may be the deciding factor, you have options later on down the road. If they are giving you a really great deal on the contract, perhaps so much so that you will pay way more later, you may want to bite the bullet and get it now.
Stock DVD probably does suck but for now its awsome. Its in a perfect spot for all rear passengers and they give you 2 sets of cordless ear phones. Not saying its the best way to go but its got lots of pros and few cons. In order to get a good deal on the color I liked, ( Maximum Steel Matalic) it came with DVD. Kinda didn't have a choice. Sorry to get off topic.
Thanks again for the helpful info, Chris! The Max Care plan with the $150 deductible is the extended warranty that I currently have on the 2012 that I currently own. I would be looking into getting an extended bumper to bumper warranty with the purchase of the 2013, however that estimated $30 extra per month pushes me over might budget and I am not comfortable with that right now, especially since we have our third baby on the way! My original budget was for a $350 monthly payment, but I decided to get the Maximum Care Warranty with the 2012 we bought and that bumped up our payment to $380 a month. When pricing out this new 2013, they were able to get me to $489 per month, but without the extended warranty. I am not familiar with all the different warranty packages but being that I have already experienced some electrical issues within the first week of owning my Durango, I know that an extended bumper to bumper warranty would help me sleep better at night.
As of right now, they are offering me the 2013 at a high $33k or a low $34k.... I can't remember the exact figure. I talked with my sales guy yesterday and advised him that if they were able to get me to $480 per month, including the Maximum Care Warranty, I would sign... but he keeps insisting that they don't have any more room to negotiate! Not sure if I believe that but it seems as though he is sticking to his story. He said that with the extended warranty, I could expect to pay around $510-$515 a month. I know it's not much over the $480 that I'm trying to get to but the thought of paying over $500 for a car payment makes me a lil sick to my stomach... and the wife, even more so! Maybe I can purchase the warranty later... but I'd have to find out how much it would be. I'm sure it'd be more, no?! Any ideas.....?!
Thanks in advance!

In order to tell you how good of deal you are getting on the service contract I would need to know the time and mileage of the contract. Also, I am assuming the vehicle is new since the link you provided says "new inventory". If that is correct then I question the deductible you are getting on the Maximum Care since Mopar does not offer a $150 deductible on the new car plans. The only plans that offer a $150 deductible are for certified pre-owned vehicles, so I would check on that.

Do they have a lesser equiped, 2012 or 2013 that would better fit your objectives? The first one you bought (used) was a little more than you budgeted. Now, it sounds like you are looking at spending even more, approximately 40% more than your original budget. I don't think you would have done that on the first one, so....maybe you shouldn't do that on this one either.
If you have the Maximum care on the first one you bought, why not just keep it? If everything is fixed, no harm..no fowl. If they replace the bumper, it's like bumping into the pole never happened. If the battery fixes the starting issue, then that is a non-issue. I wonder if you may have gotten a little too excited at the prospect of getting a higher-spec, brand new vehicle.
I'm just saying, it's easy for us to say "go for it". We don't have to make the payments. You are the one with another baby on the way, maybe you need to take a deep breath and look at your needs....not your wants. Then make a logical decision that will be financially sound for your family.
