Think about how much it will cost you if your financing. $1850 or whatever it is, over 60 months at whatever interest rate. I'm not going to figure it out now for you but its a lot more than 1850.

This is hard to answer, as vehicle pricing has a lot of variables (incentives, geographical location and local market, invoice price, dealer motivation to move the car, etc ...)

That said, here is what I got and what I paid for a 2012 Crew 3.6l:

  • 3.6l V6 2wd
  • Crew convenience package
  • blind spot/cross path detection
  • Trailer tow group IV
  • Leather interior
  • Media Center 730n
  • NAV
  • Backup cam
  • Smartbeam headlights
  • Auto sensing wipers
  • 18" wheels with Michelin Lattitude tires
  • Keyless entry and Keyless Go (push button start)
  • Remote start
  • 3rd row seating (they all have this, right?)
  • Deep tint sunscreen glass
Sticker price was $38,265
I brought them down to $35,847
subtract $2000 in rebates
= $33,847

Then I negotiated a trade in of our 2006 Cadillac SRX with 100k miles. They offered something like $8k, and we got them to go to $10k.

This was in early 2012, so prices have probably changed a bit.

I used many online resources when determining what would be a good deal:
  • www.truecar.com one was on the better resources I found for new car pricing
  • http://clearbook.truecar.com was great for trade in value
  • I also have access to ConsumerReports as a paid member, and their vehicle buying tools are also very good for determining invoice price and such
TrueCar's "Great Price" for my D was $35,299 (with the options), so I thought I was getting a good deal.

Clearbook.TrueCar's expected trade in on my Cadillac was $8720, with an expected sales price of $10,412.

I would recommend you treat this as trading in your current Durango on a new one, and forget the issues you've had with it.

Figure out what you owe on it, and what a reasonable trade in value would be. You bought it used, so you have at least the amount you put down, if not more. I think you would be making the wrong choice to give it to them, get your down payment back, and apply to a new vehicle.

Here is what Consumer Reports shows for the 2013 Durango pricing. Remember, this is base pricing, before optional features.

I think that's a great deal you got! I might be in the same boat if they had any new 2012's left, as the 2013 do not have any rebates at this time. Again, they are giving me the price of about $34k for everything that you have minus the Convenience package and Tow! DAMN!!! I know that CA sales tax doesn't help much either!

BTW, what so the SmartBeam headlights do?

Thanks for the info. Very helpful....

Smartbeam Headlights automatically switch from high beam to low beam when cars are in front of you, or coming in the opposing lane.

I didn't think it would work very well, but it is actually quite good! We use it all the time.

Hey, man, I'm in San Diego too, and I hit up every Dodge dealer within a 200 mile radius down there when I was shopping for my D. I ended up using USAA's car buying service, and the dealership I went with was Bob Baker Carlsbad. With the USAA service, I was able to get it at invoice, plus the $1000 factory incentive at the time and $500 military incentive. They treated me well and went out of their way to locate an R/T AWD for me since there were none in all of Southern Cali at the time. I ended up going to Carl Burger, and Midway and neither one of them could come close to what Bob Baker offered me with USAA. I don't know if you're in the military(being in San Diego, I figure there's a good chance), or at least have family that's in; but if so, then you are eligible for USAA, and can use the service. Also, Navy Fed offers a similar program. Anyways, I don't know if that helps, but I figured its worth looking into if it saves you some cash, whatever you decide on doing. Good luck, man!

Thanks for the info! This was something that I looked into as well, however I finalized my Chapter 7 BK in January of 2012, and Navy Fed and SD County Credit Union require that your BK be discharged at least a year before you apply. That being said, my options were to obtain financing from a stealership! Carl Burger actually was able to approve me at a 4.99% which I thought was a great rate considering my recent BK. I do, however plan to refi with NFCU or SDCCU in 6 months!

Invoice minus $1500 sounds GREAT to me! Hope to find a resolution to this soon! Thanks again!
