I have a single kicker SBl7 I've been thinking of growing in the D. Box looks great

 

Does anyone know if a JL Audio 500/1 mono block amp can power 1 Kicker Solo Baric 12" 2ohm sub? If not any good uses for the jl amp, and any suggestions. Thanks

 

will it work- yes, but it will be a little underpowered. a rule of thumb is to match the rms handeling of the sub with the rms power of the amp.

in your case your sub is rated for 600 watts rms and the amp is 500

 

It depends on which Solobaric 12 you are talking about:
12L3
12L5
12L7

Currently Kicker is only making the L7, but you can still buy the other two options new from places and they use less power and would work good with that amp. I would suggest the 12L5 at 600RMS

 

I have a 12" l7

 

It was lying around from when I had a Lexus ES300 with the l7's and is unopened as it was meant as a spare

 

If it tells you anything, I am running 1800 watts to my 2 12l7 subs. A 500 watt amp will run a 12L7 sub, just not to its full potential (as long as you run at 1 or 2 ohms, depends on which version you have), so you actually pull enough power from the amp.
