Getting terrible gas mileage with Hemi AWD

It makes me laugh when guys go out and buy a 5000lb vehicle with a 360hp v8, pay the extra $1000 for the v8 then turn around and wonder why or how the gas milage isn't that goodo_O I just pick up a 2012 Durango with the v6. It has all the power my wife will ever need. Beings that we don't tow anything with it didn't need the hemi. I got 2003 Ram hemi for that. And yes the gas milage ain't great with the hemi but.......u wanna play your gonna pay. With that said my v6 durango gets 15 or 16 in the city right now. We just moved up from a 2000 durango with a 5.9 360. That was a friggen gas hog!! But I didn't complain because I knew it was before we bought it. To the poster that wants to limit the revs to 2000rpm.........NOWAY would I do that!! If ur wife needs to hurry and get outta the way of something then that durango ain't gonna get outta the way fast enough. Its very dangerous if u ask me!! Don't do it. If u want better gas milage trade it in for something else! Otherwise just drive it and don't worry about gas milage.

I had read some previous posts when I searched here of quite a few people getting around 15 miles per gallon in the city. It made me start wondering if I was the only 1 getting around 12 miles per gallon. I'm okay with it, as long as its normal. I'm not exactly complaining, just wondering what everyone is averaging.

If lack of acceleration was a safety concern there would not be any Geo Metro's or Rabbit diesels left. I have not been in any situations that were dangerouse while keeping it at 2k or below. Also, just because we want/use 400ft lb's to tow our travel traler on the weekends doesnt mean we need it to commute to work during the week, so if limiting it during the week would save gas, then why not do it? I was just wandering if the tuner was capable of doing that, if not to 2k then how about 3k or 4k, any one know?

If ur really that concerned about mpg's because u gotta goto work then get a cheap, small, reliable car. That's what I did. 2 yrs ago I bought a 2002 hyundai accent for $2000. The car had 148000 miles then. I have since put over 24000 miles on without a single hickup(knock on wood), and have saved countless dollars in fuel. It only took me 6 months of driving back and forth to work to pay off the $2000 for the car just in gas savings. The last yr and half I've saved at least $3000 in gas alone. Plus my 2003 dodge ram hemi has less miles on it because of it. Just a thought.

Thats a great idea!!!!!! for your teenager!!! I often thought when my teen starts to drive(hes 14 now) that i would do something like that! But I would limit the rpms to around 3000, 3500 tops. The reason I say this is because 4 years ago I wasnt paying attention to a traffic light. I was in my own little world. Just wasnt with it that morning. Well I ran a red light going across a 4 lane highway and buy the time I relized what I was doing I looked to my right and barreling at me at 55 mph was 18 wheeler!! I gunned it(had the 2000 durango with a 5.9 360 in it at the time) and just got outta the way before I got killed!!!! If my rpms were only allowed to rev to 2000 I would've died that day!!!! That durango would not of got outta the way fast enough!!!! The 18 wheeler did brush my plastic bumper cover just causing a few scratches!!! So I got really lucky!! Thats why I would never lower my rev limiter to anything under 3000 rpms. I probably would never limit my revs now at all just because of my close call! Besides I would never let my 16yr old(boy especially) drive my 2012 Durango. But thats just me. My plan is to buy him a cheap car(you know, a nice reliable car) for his 16th birthday and have him get a job so he can pay for the insurance and gas and some of the maintenence. He wants a dodge neon srt4........ BUT THAT AINT HAPPENING!!!!!! Just a regular dodge neon is fine for him. Thats another idea you could think about.

Wow, sounds like you were fortunate in a couple of ways. People in gas savers probably wouldnt have the power to get out of the way that quickly, and most wouldnt have been paying enough attention to know to hit the gas anyway. Now if we can just get one of these guys that has a tuner to try it and tell us if it will allow you to lower the rev limit.
