Default New Replacement Key costs a fortune?

My 2012 Dodge Durango was stolen w/ the keys, so when we recovered it, we had to get a new key made. I got it towed to the dealer we bought it from and the quote they gave us...$1688.00!!! For a new key? Really? Do I have any options besides paying this ridiculous amount to the dealership? 3 locksmiths I have called do not have a ability to do it.

W.T.F. ! I thought my BMW and Benz were bad at $500! That is highway robbery!!!! Just curious how did your vehicle get stolen with the keys in it? I heard insurance doesn't cover you if they found that the vehicle was stolen w/ the keys.

Oh those MF'ers. I hope everything was ok w/ the Durango and intact? Can you get your car or home insurance to pay for the fob?

If you don't have remote start on the vehicle you could have one installed. Usually cost less than $500 at the dealer and comes with 2 new keys. Are they installing anything else for almost $1700?

For that price i wonder if its for a new WIN module or a bcm so the codes are NOT the same as the keys they stole.

Also there are some locksmiths that have the correct tools to program keys as needed. they have all the tools dealers do, just portable. i have used them before with a ford.

Shouldn't your homeowners insurance cover the cost?

When I bought my R/T last week, the sales manager said to keep up with the keys because they are "about $450".

WTF, try a different dealer or actually call first before you tow it again, that is ridiculous. I told my wife to not through the key fob around, it's like gold.
