Since I am not a mechanical guy at all...what does changing the thermostat do? how does it make everything cooler?

No worries bro. The thermostat controls coolant flow into the engine. The factory thermostat is rated at 195 degrees and it's a static unit which means it doesnt start opening until 195. That's why most of us run over 200 degrees even on the freeway. The unit I installed is a progressive rate 180 degree unit that begins opening at 175 degrees and is fully open by 185 degrees as tested by me. The cooler the engine the more likely the PCM will command a higher timing map effectively giving you HP you would otherwise have lost do to ignition timing being pulled out. It's a little more complicated than that but that's the basics.

Yes it will pass. You will still heat up the entire cooling system to 220 degrees on the smog dyno. Without a fan modification you will only run lower temps while moving.

Found this on the HHP website for 180 stats
http://www.highhorseperformance.com/...1L_p/10183.htm

RECOMMENDED FAN SETTINGS FOR USE WITH THE DIABLO TUNING:

In order to take full advantage of your HHP 180 degree thermostat, on applicable vehicles with adjustable fan settings, we recommend the following fan temperature adjustments on your Diablosport tuner. Set All 9 Fan Settings (both Air Condition On and AC Off) to:

All HS (High Speed) Fan Settings to 194 Degrees
All LS (Low Speed) Fan Settings to 189 Degrees
All MS (Med. Speed) Fan Settings to 192 Degrees

*Failure to set your fan settings at these higher temps will result in your fans constantly running and can cause your fan motors to burn out prematurely.

That's a liability deal. Burn out your fans huh. I've run fan temps at 185 on 175 off on my camaro which makes them run Almost continuous for over 13 years and 50,000 miles with no adverse effects.

anyone with the intune adjusted the cooling fans on the D?

i installed the 180 tstat and adjusted the cooling fans temps for when the a/c is off and on, and the fans only come on when i have the A/C running..when i turn off the a/c the fans dont run or nothing while the temps go 210+..ive set the cooling fans when A/C off at 190 and they never turn on!

anyone else have the same problem as me?
