Diablo in tune vs. Hypertech
this thread will turn into nothing but a pissing match. BUT honestly...I see the Hypertech being the BEST choice right now and maybe for quite awhile for the Durango. I seriously doubt youll see very many durango owners mod their durangos for speed etc. where the Diablo will be needed. For the few that will...the diablo is the unanimoius choice. I do have a friend at diablo that did the hydrodipping for my durangos engine bay and he says there are way more happy owners than unhappy. They have sold hundreds of tuners for the 11+ Grand Cherokee with very few reported problems. Matter of fact...most reported problems end up being end user problems. I sure you will see problems wiht the hypertech as well. It goes with the business. Good luck to all. There are some beautiful rides here!
I don't care about HP performance and so. I bought it to tweak all the other things and transmission is one major issue in this car. It lacks of fast shifting and strong shifting nor is it responding fast on demand of my foot.
The custom tune from Hemifever allowed me to solve a great part of that misbehavior. Or do you really like to drive in 2nd/3rd when coming out from a slow corner? I had to almost full throttle it to downshift into a better gear.
I live in a hilly region (Switzerland, NO not Sweden! ;-) ) I live on 800m over sea and work on 250m over sea. So each day I have to go down and up with lots of curves. Narrow curves which requires that you shift down into 1st normally. The Durango never did that right without excessive accelerator pushing.
Now, with the changed torque management it shifts fast, really fast and hard under full throttle. Also you only have to slightly press the accelerator pedal and it's in first or it is even more already in first during the curve which is even better. It also now downshifts into 1st when you are above 60km/h which it never did with original code. That was important for me because the streets are sometimes more than 18% steep. With original code it was impossible to accelerate above 60-65km/h. It remained in 2nd. Imagine if you are full throttling it uphill and wont accelerate!!! A 20year old Suzuki Swift passed me uphill! Damn, I drive a 400PS Hemi with lots of torque?!? Now it downshifts, which gets me the max power to accelerate and it now shifts later at around 85-90km/h. Because of that you're in the better power band of the engine and it could accelerate.
So, not only HP monkeys are happy for such a solution like the InTune, also the average married guy with 2 kids, a house and cats :-)
I had problems too in the beginning with the calibration Id. A chat seesions and 10mins later everything was resolved and it worked since then without any issues.
Biggest issue with the Diablo is that the ABS light comes on after tune and DS has no idea how to get it off. It stays on even after tune is returned to stock. For six months, DS has been "aware" of the problem and has duplicated it in house, but has not been able to correct it. They claim they are "working on it," but I'm sure it is a low priority when you are talking about an application that is among its slowest sellers. I am taking my D in next week for headers and high flow cats to go with the intake, TB and exhaust and a Hemi tuning guru will attempt to solve the ABS light issue on his own.
I've had my iTune for four months and have had zero problems. The ABS light won't come on unless you try to change the tire size - just don't try, this is well documented on Durango sites. I have changed the part throttle shift points for 1/2 and 2/3, raising them around 600-700 rpm which made a big difference in around-town driving. That with the Diablo tune and maxing out the throttle boost has made a world of difference in my enjoyment of my R/T. I can heartily recommend the Trinity product - as long as you don't try to change the tire size.....

The word "bugs" just turns me off when it comes to aftermarket tuning.
Since the 2 tunes are on the safe side, who gives a flip about monitoring "timing, detonation, voltage, etc"? These aren't forced induction cars. If you have issues with detonation with either of these "programmers" on a near stock Durango, you have bigger fish to fry.
I have a CAI and the Hypertech. That's it and that's all that it will ever have. No need here for a cheesy looking monitor stuck to the windshield of my family truckster.

Not exactly fair or true as your the only guy running the 1/4 mile, mjnewman has seen similar gains with his hypertech running his rig at the road course and has posted about it numerous times.
I wish I knew that the tire size caused the problem, but as one of the first, it is too late for me. Returning the tune back to stock does not fix the issue, nor does going back to stock, then adding a new tune without tire adjustments. I guess that is the price we pay as early adopters. It is frustrating that DS has no answer six months into this issue...

Is the intune dcx worth the extra 100 to 200 more $ (custom tune) over the Hypertech. Is the performance gains 1.5 times better than the hypertech. If I were to get the hypertech it would be for the Hp gains and shift point alteration. Every week I am back and forth between waiting for the 2013 tune or buying a Hypertech or even giving the Bully dog GT tuner a shot. Decesions..........
